“Echoes of Earth” is an abstract art work that delves into the intricate relationship between identity and the natural world. Through a dynamic interplay of colors and images, it invites viewers on a journey of self-discovery intertwined with the rhythms of nature. It challenges us to explore the depths of our identity while recognizing our intrinsic connection to the natural world.

A work in my spontaneous geometric series though a little more planned than some of the others. Of course, eventually planning does come in to play in all works.
This work got its name from a funny thing that occurred in the creation of it. In my quaint, tiny studio I like to think I am not just painting pictures or creating artwork. I am making statements on esthetics in post-modern America, experimenting with space, color and dimensions as we know them and doing my best to leave my creative mark on the important time-line left by the great ones before me and depended on by those who approach the visual arts after me. It is difficult to convey how much the above endeavors actually consumes my very being. Of course while I visit with the muse concerning the tasks before me and my next move on this work… my Grandson saw, and took advantage of, the monster truck road before him. Thus the name.
Yes indeed. Humbled by a two year old.

One might easily see something in a highly defined and particular way. Someone else could just as easily see that same something in an entirely different, highly defined and particular, yet unrelated, way. Can both be correct?

This painting, done on four small canvases, was inspired by the continual craziness and “ins-and-outs” of the year 2020… the year it seemed COVID-19 and responses to it controlled everything. Each canvas is visually connected to the others much like the many crazy aspects of the year 2020 continued to impact other parts of the year. Though painted to be displayed together, each small canvas (representing winter, spring, summer and fall) were composed and signed individually for being displayed (and possibly sold) separately. Whether this work continues to be kept together or each canvas ends up in separate locations is being left completely to chance and uncertainty much like the many aspects of the year for which it is named.

One can rely on another for support… but that one may be relying on another, who may be relying on another, who may be relying on still another. Yet it can all work out.

The series Below And Beyond is an experimental abstraction of the images of tree roots made with the cyanotype technique. It is based on my readings around cosmic awareness, coexistence, connection, and taking root, inspired by my nature walks and bodily disconnectedness with family and friends during the first year of the pandemic. They are visual explorations of my aim to be rooted, to understand where my roots are as an immigrant, and how one perceives the concept of roots through nature. Reserving center stage for trees that could be considered carriers of ecological memory and their roots that preserve their consciousness, the series refers to the perpetual cycle and interconnectedness of life, physically and spiritually.
The prints, produced initially as cyanotypes, symbolize the consciousness and memory that emanates from the earth through being connected and interdependent. Roots represent physical connectedness but also past, present, and future connectedness. Images that resemble cells magnified under a microscope represent a close-up look at the connections and network systems that the individual feeds on and the macro view of the planet that we exist on by looking underneath the surface. They remind us that the roots, evoking a sense of belonging, are connected to a shared system, to the constant flow in nature.
You can see the other images from the series on my website https://aslinarin.com/Below-And-Beyond

The print is framed with UV-protected glass and ready to be hung. It is the first edition of 5+ 2AP editions.

If selected I could make a work that would be multi parts depending on the area that would showcase the work.

My work is very durable and constructed with materials that make stylistically unique in the way it bends and weaves through space.
There is a definite intention to bend and shape curvilinear forms that reference fluidity and motion My visual vocabulary includes water, specifically references of waves, wind as in sails, bridges, flight, airplanes, wings and birds. It is my intention to create art that envelopes the physical space in an organic and harmonious way so the space and the art become one. I weave the tapestry of life, a theme that resonates in my work.

This work came from my amor, respeto and orgullo in my mother, Ana. My mother’s side of the familia comes from Cienfuegos, Cuba. During graduate school, I had some die cut stencils made as a means of showing the power of repetition and the impact on the viewer.

“Cienfuegos, Cuba” carries the weight of the isla, historia, su gente, y las familias that are continually working towards common necessities. The repetition and multiplicity create a beauty of the written word which depicts the allure of the isla while illustrating the dilapidation of architecture, lack of current medical needs and the torn relationships of familias who were ripped apart by communist rule.

This artwork reflects the importance and usage of spices by roughly all Cubans. Bay Leaves, a delicious leaf that can enhance any meat based meal with the taste of the Caribbean. Ever since I was a child in the kitchen while my mother was cooking, I would bother her for the bay leaves in the pot. I would suck on the bay leaves enjoying the flavors of the meal and the leaf. Like the way in America, kids would “lick the spoon”.

“La presencia del Laurel” is a work that shows my love of my cultures foods and spices. In Cuban, Laurel translates to “bay leaf”. The physical paint conveys my passion for the taste and the use by many Hispanic peoples. The bed of bay leaves are coated with a polycrylic to seal them in and became a textured surface that the paint markers can illuminate the Caribbean flavor.
