This is a two sided, hand and machine sewn quilt made from used clothing.. It was constructed from smaller pieces that were used to create the “WE” installation at the Indiana State Museum for the “FIX:Hope and Heartbreak in the Opioid Crisis” exhibit. “WE” was on exhibit there from February 2020 to August 2021 and then at the Minnetrista Art Center from August 2021 to August 2022. This final piece (#101) was part of the “OLD CLOTHES” solo exhibit at the Speck Gallery in January 2024. I use old clothes because I believe they come with the magic of the experience, strength and hope of the person who wore them. I deconstruct them and resew the pieces into security blankets. These security blankets represent recovery and the idea that we cannot recover alone. We also must shed our outer layers in order to recover and these security blankets are made from the shed outer layers of others.

The ongoing series Inlands is a collection of black-and-white abstract landscape images. The name suggests that the photos in the series are a visual representation of one’s inner thoughts and states. By abstracting the details in nature using strong contrast and tight croppings, the series represents a journey inward and discovering oneself.

This photo is a new addition to the series and has not been exhibited before. If selected, it will be printed on archival inkjet paper and framed at approximately 38×26 inches.

This artwork was created in Indianapolis as part of a hybridized satellite residency with Wells College, NY. Several pieces from the series have been exhibited at the Herron School of Art. Initially featured in an exhibition, Stumbling Stumbling, the title encourages consideration of something abruptly occurring. This drawing and others respond to connection through pairing, fate, and separation through symbolic referencing, personal association, and memory.

With the love of fashion and family, two major losses reached me in the same year: that of Issey Miyake, the originator of pleats-please, and my grandmother. This piece tried to combine the lightweight quality of the pleat design with my grandmother’s favorite suit jacket, merging flatness and weightlessness. The composition forms a compass-like arrangement in order to speculate on the implacable quality of their current state.

In this artwork, two clothing designs are connected and waving in front of a view showing birds in a tree and the sky. The two clothing designs mirror one another, and, in a similar way, those designs mirror the number of birds. A Red Cardinal, and the other is a Turquoise-browed Motmot. One bird is the state bird of Indianapolis, and the other is the country bird for El Salvador- typically not existing together. These birds signal the union of people from different places joined together while simultaneously existing far in space and time apart.

The hourglass is one of three drawings. This piece is one of three that allows you to see the full arrangement of the hourglass. The depiction shows the glass in scale relationship to the room it’s surrounded by. Titled, time will tell, this is a simple take on the notion that the sand will run out. It is a meditation on the sand at the top full, the sand running through the glass, there being a finite ending — in coordination with the series it’s a part of, that ending being dependent upon the point of view you’re looking

This drawing was done in Prismacolor pencil. The subjects gathered every day, sometimes twice per day for fellowship outside a White Castle restaurant. These friends demonstrate a bond of commitment to camaraderie. For these men, this was their “country club” and a safe place for honest and open discussion. Gathering here was another outlet like the barber shop where men could have real talk and safe communication.

This award-winning piece has been exhibited at Meet the Artist, Irvington Presents, CJ Walker Center, Indiana State Fair, Chamber of Commerce, Garfield Park Art Center, Schrott Center, Actors Theater of Louisville for the 26th Annual African American Exhibit, Black History month at Saks Fifth Avenue and was on display at the Indianapolis International Airport in a larger than life mural on Concourse A.

This piece was created as a response to current state of the world, and humanity’s struggles to exist in peace with each other, and our Earth home. I imagined multitudes of different beautiful human beings connecting , floating in swirling currents of color, holding each other’s hopes.
I used dimensional techniques of layering, and forming textile elements to stand out from the surface, adding various textures for the contrast with the faces.

I would like to add more detailed close up pictures to show the complexity of the work. Let me know if I am allowed to send them, and how.
