Indy’s Angel Watching Over Us was created in 2021 and quickly became my most prized artwork and fans favorite. It was made with the best materials known to man including man’s own human hair to make it even more unique. The Metallic Chameleon paint was used for her flesh and it gives an illusion that makes her skin tone change from light bronze to a medium bronze color as you look at the masterpiece from different angles, which gives a chameleon effect. This piece is perfect for conversation starting, small talking & group discussions. The Indy’s Angel Watching Over Us is a centerpiece like no other!

The Black Star Line was part of Garvey’s vision to encourage black self-determination and economic independence. The goal of the Black Star Line was to foster the growth of a self-reliant and resilient global black economy.

This piece of art was originally created to be a part of curator D. Del Reverda-Jennings Art & Soul 2023 Exhibit on the theme of black resistance.

“I am a Dreamer” illustrates the story of a young girl whose dreams of reaching for the stars take her on a journey of discovering who she is and who she wants to become. Born at the sunrise of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, she quickly flew away at a young age from the conditions of an upcoming rainstorm that would ultimately bring her dreams down. With the help of the monarch butterfly’s trail, she found herself in the United States and landed in Indianapolis, Indiana. The calm and comforting sunset of Indy gave her the best welcome she could ever ask for with a gift, an opportunity to reach for her dreams and create a new world that would perfectly describe who she is and who she has become: an artist and a dreamer.

The painting represents the artist’s story as well as the idea of not being limited by bad weather/closed doors, reaching for the stars, and creating a future of more opportunities.

This painting was exhibited at Newfields from November 24, 2023 – January 7, 2024 in LAMP’s (DE AQUI Y DE ALLA) Art Exhibition
Since February 2024 this painting has been printed for a window mural downtown Indy as part of the Indy Arts Council SideWalk Galleries Collection (W. Jackson PI, Indianapolis, IN 46225)

They often try to catch the butterfly.
They study her growth .
Amazed by her evolution.
Self determination.
Metamorphosis. . They say it’s only 4 stages…. they only seem to admire the last.
She worked for this shit… In ALL her stages.
It’s Only her in her cocoon.
Who really knows what goes on in her cocoon . . .
Solitude… self reflection? Second guessing ? .. Understanding. .
Emerging from her safe space.
With new wings. How the hell did she learn how to fly without practice . .
Innate behavior. Ahh, It’s natural nature .
Purpose.
So Nah she Ain’t crawling no more.. Unless of course.. she wants to .
Even in flight . You still have to land. Re-late . Come back .
You know , Sankofa shit .
Theres herstory in her wings .
Her truth .
While they try to catch the butterfly and change her story to history.
They write books about her findings.
Problem is they don’t innerstand her language.
They don’t know how to translate.
You gotta be apart of it.

So she just wanna fly away .
Survive. Live. Explore .
Land on a sunflower and soak up the rays .
Pollinate .
Give and receive .

They often try to catch the butterfly like she ain’t supposed to be free . .
Like yo infatuation is more important than her purpose. .
They try catch her only to dissect her… Like God aint a perfectionist .
To break her beauty. So they can TRY to understand her evolution .
Make up their own definitions of how she got to where she is . .
& Their findings don’t scratch the surface.
In the name of science.. or ignorance..
it’s your perception.
They don’t innerstand nature . .
Growth . Evolution.
Cause they are not CONNECTED to it
Cause they never been through it.
So they often try to catch the butterfly. .

If you’re lucky she’ll land in your hands for a moment & it’ll seem like a lifetime.

The butterfly effect is an ideological theory. The theory is that the smallest of things can have a larger impact than what you may see or expect. Like a butterfly flapping it’s wings can change the trajectory of a tornado.

I’ve been resonating with this ideology a lot recently. I’m in a large season of transition and so in certain ways I’m the butterfly. I’m also trying to remember that even some of the smallest of things can have a greater impact than what I’m aware of. That gives me a sense of peace.
