I created this piece of artwork in the time that my father was convalescing. I was able to complete the art while on a trip that I took to Hawaii to visit friends and recover from the events surrounding my father’s funeral. I named the piece “Planted Like A Tree” because it was my ability to ground myself and find internal stability (even while grieving) to continue to create art and live my life without being consumed or carried away by my emotions.
Actually, I created a series of trees that year. Two trees were donated to a fundraising raffle.

Dominque Miller created a cartoon series called ” Evidential Myths ” from his live action film to be creative with dealing with ADD and PTSD. Not only did he created it in Indianapolis, IN but also wanting to create the cartoon in Indianapolis ,IN.

This image is inspired by the Mexican traditional folk art called Papel Picado. I’ve taken the elements (Navy, Gold, Stars, Torch, etc.) of the Indiana state flag and combine them with images (skulls, corn, tildes, etc.) of Latin America and arrange them within the structure of a Papel Picado grid. It represents the century during which immigrants from Mexico have lived in the state of Indiana. The image is bold, and has elements of hand painting, representing the hand labor of the migrant farm workers that have come to Indiana over the past century and laser cut materials, representing the factories, in which many of these migrate workers held machinist positions.

This is a graffiti inspired image of a traditional Hebrew character that represents “life.” having grown up in a neighborhood that was predominantly Latino and Jewish in New York City, I was inspired to create this image to respond to a kind of contemporary Jewishnessness. Using the colors of the Hebrew flag, and an image of distressed brick, I was hoping to capture an urban feeling in a new perspective for the symbol. My aim was to create a new energy, a positive energy and a new wave of saluting, “LIFE.”

This is a digital painting, based on a photograph that I took a few years back. The game of dominoes is a pastime of many Latin American countries and cultures. In this particular case, I overlapped a colorized image of the US flag in Mexican Flag colors over the image of the dominoes (US version to symbolize assimilation), to create kind of an intersection of sorts of both cultures. The digital painting. technique uses a texturized feature that is reminiscent of the stucco buildings of Mexico. Not seen in the image provided is a hidden watermark of a Calavera (Day of the Dead Skull image) that can be viewed, depending on the light source, and varies from where a viewer is walking. it’s a very kinetic piece with an interesting story to tell in regard to the blending of cultures.
