When I first came here, I was kind of lost. I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t have a job. I was going down the wrong path. This place has turned my life around. I got me a job in under a week. I’m starting to get back on track. I’m going to college. They’ve kept me focused. I’ll be getting my business degree.
—Malik, youth from Stopover’s Safe Place program
Midtown’s mission is to rebuild the Midtown area, and to use the prosperity of the northern side of 38th to influence the south side of 38th, to inspire people and to give people the financial means and the economic knowhow to improve neighborhood from within without gentrification. CICF’s funding goes towards our Maple Crossing – Great Places 2020 Initiatives – Informing folks of that, taking measures to improve the area – it goes towards us working on keeping statistics and knowledge up about what’s being improved in the area.
—Casey, program and events coordinator at Midtown Indianapolis Inc.
CICF provides us with funding that allows our programs to keep running. It allows us to have English classes, allows employment training, women’s programs, youth programs, and multiple other programs within our organization that are important. Exodus isn’t just about having a family come and providing shelter and food but also about the long-term goals they set for themselves.
—Sara, case manager at Exodus Refugee
The IRT is the state theatre of Indiana and there is a responsibility because of our commitment to bringing fully produced professional theater to people of all ages. We had some high school students who saw my play and it was the first play they had ever seen. That is an awesome privilege for me as a writer.
—James, playwright in residence at Indiana Repertory Theatre
The first thing they say is “I don’t want to get in the pool!” If you can get them in the pool and get them to stay, they’re hooked!
