Grants support strong, healthy and self-sustaining women and girls
Women’s Fund of Central Indiana, a special interest fund of Central Indiana Community Foundation, recently announced the allocation of $195,000 to 11 not-for-profit organizations in Central Indiana. The grants were approved at the organization’s Advisory Board meeting in November.
Organizations chosen to receive a competitive grant from Women’s Fund demonstrated effective programs that address one or more of the priority areas of domestic violence, development and empowerment of girls, women’s health and care giving. Three of the 11 organizations that received funding ($40,000 total) will support transitional housing for women recovering from addiction—Youth & Family Health Network, Seeds of Hope and Dove Recovery House.
Among others, the list of grantees includes:
La Plaza ($20,000)—Funding provides STEM programming to 50 low-income Latino girls, including workshops, job shadowing, internships, mentoring, presentations from professional Latino women and hands-on experience with coding, graphic design, video game design, web development and more.
Agape Therapeutic Riding Resources ($20,000)—This grant will support Unbridled Hope, an equine experiential therapy program for survivors of sexual abuse, domestic violence and human trafficking. Women and girls work with horses to improve their confidence, self-esteem and coping, communication and interpersonal skills.
Coburn Place ($20,000)—Funding supports operating costs for Adult Services, the core outreach, supportive and housing service for survivors of domestic violence.
