Grants awarded through Legacy fund support Hamilton county organizations providing health services, youth mentorship and more
In its last grant allocation of 2016, Legacy Fund, a Central Indiana Community Foundation affiliate serving Hamilton County, awarded $83,500 to 10 not-for-profit organizations. Grantees receiving funding help to meet the increasing needs in Hamilton County, and break down barriers for various demographics of its residents.
Among the 10 grantees are five organizations that support mentorship, character development, self-esteem boosting and other life skills for Hamilton County youth: Best Buddies Indiana, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana, Camptown, Inc., Murphy Mentoring Group, Inc. and Outside the Box.
Several grantees have recently experienced a higher demand for services Legacy Fund grants will support program expansions that better meets the need of the community. Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s food pantry, which now purchases an additional $350,000 worth of food than it did in 2013, will use its grant to buy healthy, fresh food for its patrons. The Salvation Army will use its funding to help more people gain self-sufficiency through its Pathway of Hope program. And Trinity Free Clinic continues to see a growing number of low-income, uninsured patients from all over Hamilton County. The clinic plans to use the grant to increase staff and expand clinic hours to service more residents.
Grants from Legacy Fund are made possible by the 25-year-old Endowment for Hamilton County, an unrestricted endowment made possible by generous and strategic donors. Grants were supplemented by the City of Noblesville Fund and Sheridan Fund, both funds held at Legacy Fund.
