Grants awarded through The Indianapolis Foundation and Central Indiana Senior Fund support urgent medical care for seniors, help women build life skills and more
CICF recently awarded $1,078,372 to 49 area not-for-profit organizations through The Indianapolis Foundation, a CICF affiliate, and Central Indiana Senior Fund, a CICF field of interest fund. Grants were approved by their respective boards and committee members in November.
The Indianapolis Foundation awarded $348,000 to 13 organizations serving Marion County with effective programs in the areas of quality of life, education, vitality of the community, connectivity of neighborhoods and building community assets.
Two recipients of The Indianapolis Foundation’s grants include:
- The Department of Public Words, which seeks to empower people to use positive words through art and education. In addition to its iconic “You Are Beautiful” billboard in Fountain Square, the organization also administers character and esteem-building arts programs for people of all ages and backgrounds.
- Heart Change Ministries, which launched its “Gift of Work” initiative three years ago to provide life skills, mentoring and job readiness skills to low-resourced women. Heart Felt Soaps is a social enterprise of that initiative where women make, market and sell handmade soaps while earning not only a paycheck, but also transferable work experience and skills.
Grants from The Indianapolis Foundation were made possible by the 100-year-old Endowment for Indianapolis and were supplemented by the Christmas Fund and James Proctor Fund for Aged Men and Women, both field of interest funds of The Indianapolis Foundation. The Central Indiana Senior Fund, another field of interest fund at CICF, awarded its grants exclusively to organizations working to meet the basic needs of aging adults. The Senior Fund announced $730,032 in grants to 36 organizations that align with the fund’s research-based priority areas. Learn more about The Central Indiana Senior Fund here.
A few of the 36 organizations that received funding from the Senior Fund include:
- NeighborLinks, for its home repair program, which provides free professional home services to low-income seniors, including accessibility upgrades.
- Gennesaret Free Clinic and Trinity Free Clinic, both of which offer dental and other health services for those seniors between Healthy Indiana Plans and Medicare.
- Meals on Wheels, which offer nutritious food to house-bound and low-mobility seniors.
Grants were also awarded to not-for-profits that provide transportation services, increase quality of life and providing basic needs, including housing. A complete list of grants can be found below.
