Indianapolis artist’s career accelerates after fellowship
Anila Quayyum Agha was born in Lahore, Pakistan. She has an MFA in Fiber Arts from the University of North Texas. In 2008 she relocated to Indianapolis to teach at the Herron School of Art in Indianapolis.
In 2009, Anila was the recipient of the prestigious Efroymson Contemporary Arts Fellowship established by Jeremy Efroymson. This fellowship program provides $25,000 unrestricted awards to (5) Midwest contemporary visual artists annually. The Efroymson Fellowship gave Anila the flexibility and financial freedom to create new bodies of work.
In 2014, Anila received international attention after she was awarded $300,000 for her installation Intersections at ArtPrize in Grand Rapids, sweeping both the jury and public vote.
Since then Anila’s story and award-winning work has been featured around the world. This spring, as part of Indiana’s Bicentennial celebration, her award-winning piece Intersections will be in Indianapolis at the Indiana State Museum.
