FAQs:
What is a FAFSA?
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This application determines students’ eligibility for financial aid. After filing the FAFSA, a college can tell students which additional scholarships and grants they can receive as well as how much money students can borrow in federal loans.
What is a EFC?
- Your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) is an index number used to determine your eligibility for federal student financial aid. This number results from the financial information you provide in your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form. It's reported to you on your Student Aid Report (SAR).
Your EFC is calculated according to a formula established by law and considers your family’s taxed and untaxed income, assets, and benefits (such as unemployment or Social Security). Schools use the EFC to determine your federal aid eligibility and financial aid award. We understand that there may be gaps in the amount of aid you need, however, this will help us gauge the financial need for your intended program.
Can I start an application and finish it later?
No. You must complete the entire application once you have started it.
Does my documentation status impact my application?
No. Students who are undocumented are eligible to apply to any of CICF’s scholarships as long as they meet the specific criteria defined for each individual scholarship. Our staff and committees understand that undocumented students often have significant need and limited access to resources to obtain post-secondary credentials.
What is the application deadline?
There is currently no deadline.
When and how will my scholarship be paid?
Recipients must submit scholarship acceptance agreements to CICF before a scholarship will be paid. For a majority of scholarships, scholarship checks are sent directly to the recipient’s school by August, provided students have submitted required paperwork. Checks are made payable to the recipient’s school.
Who should I contact with questions?
