The Indianapolis Foundation’s board of directors has approved grants and investments for Marion County not-for-profits, projects and initiatives totaling $2,704,444.
The Indianapolis Foundation, an affiliate of CICF, directed $1,971,000 to investment plans and opportunity funds. Investment plans and opportunity funds are essential tools to assist CICF in supporting its community leadership work and leading initiatives aligned with its mission and strategic plan.
“These allocations help us deliver on our promises to the Marion County community,” said Tamara Winfrey-Harris, vice president of community leadership and effective philanthropy. “The funds support our work in economic mobility, family stabilization, criminal justice reform and violence reduction, neighborhood empowerment and placemaking, dismantling institutional racism and other key areas.”
Some of the initiatives supported through investment plans and opportunity funds include:
MORTAR ($100,000) – CICF is partnering with MORTAR and other local organizations to provide support to historically marginalized entrepreneurs in Indianapolis. MORTAR, established in Cincinnati, has a five-part program: the academy which utilizes culturally competent materials developed by MORTAR, an alumni network focused on mentoring, pop-up shop experience, the Iron Chest which is capital support, and advocacy.
Movement of 10,000 ($425,000)– The foundation is developing a multi-platform, community-based movement in Indianapolis and Central Indiana to mobilize people to become anti-racist and commit to a practice of acts of equity. Participants will learn about our country and region’s history of racism and the present ramifications, engage in a learning journey towards racial equity, and commit to anti-racist actions.
Connected Communities ($250,000)– CICF is working to create the next level of neighborhood connectivity in Indianapolis through the creation of the B&O Trail, bike and pedestrian trails with a priority focus on underappreciated Black and Latinx neighborhoods in Haughville, Riverside and Speedway.
Immigrant Legal Services Fund ($100,000) – CICF is partnering with the City of Indianapolis on a new initiative with the mission to provide equitable access to legal support and representation to the immigrant community in Marion county.
