Last week, a gunman in Atlanta murdered eight people—most of those victims were Asian. This tragic act of violence and hatred is not anything new, but, as always, is a painful jolt to our commitment to shared humanity.
As the United States continues to navigate COVID-19, our nation has seen a significant surge in violence and hatred targeting Asian Americans. We decry these outrageous and violent acts of xenophobia and discrimination. This country must turn against the ignorance and hate of the past and present. We must honor the gifts and dignity of every human being—no matter place, race or identity.
